Active disease in lighter skin can often present with patches and plaques that are pink to red and erythematous compared to brown to violaceous in darker skin. Morphology in darker skin can include follicular and papular presentations compared to patch and plaque morphology seen in lighter skin. Chronic disease in darker skin can also present with postinflammatory pigment change. ++ ++ FIGURE 2-1. Ill-defined hyperpigmented lichenified patches and plaques with notable background erythema and overlying scale and excoriations. Fine papules representing follicular accentuation are noted above and below the antecubital fossa. Hypopigmented macules can also be seen peripherally on both extremities.
